Avenir Voronov

Born Nov. 15 (28), 1910, in Oranienbaum, present-day Lomonosov, Leningrad Oblast. Soviet scientist in the field of automatic control theory. Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1970). Member of the CPSU since 1943.

Voronov graduated from the Leningrad Polytechnic Institute in 1938 and worked as an engineer in the state regional electric power plant in the city of Balakhna, Gorky Oblast. He became an instructor at the Bauman Moscow Higher Technical School in 1946 and a staff member of the Institute of Automation and Telemechanics (now the Institute of Problems of Control) in 1948. From 1955 to 1964 he was deputy director of the Institute of Electrical Mechanics of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, and from 1964 to 1970 he was deputy director of the Institute of Problems of Control. In 1970, Voronov became director of the Institute of Automation and Control Processes of the Far Eastern Science Center of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. He also taught in the Leningrad Polytechnic Institute from 1958 to 1964 and in the Moscow Institute of Radio Engineering, Electronics, and Automation from 1966.

Voronov proposed new methods of investigating dynamic processes in linear and nonlinear systems. He developed methods of synthesizing digital computing systems for programmed control. Together with his students he worked out frequency methods of modeling to permit optimum choice of information processing systems. He has been awarded the Order of the Red Banner and various medals.
