Binet staging system
Binet staging system
A schema for staging chronic lymphocytic leukemia. The Binet classification integrates the number of nodes involved with the disease with bone marrow failure. Its major benefit is that it recognises a predominantly splenic form of CLL, which may have a better prognosis than in the Rai staging, and ignores anaemia or thrombocytopaenia, which have a similar prognosis and don’t warrant a separate stage.Binet staging system
Low-stage disease
A—Lymphocytosis with enlargement of < 3 lymphoid regions.
A’—Stage A + lymphocyte count ≤ 30,000/mm3 + Hb ≥ 120 g/L.
A’’—Stage A + lymphocyte count > 30,000/mm3 and/or Hb < 120 g/L.
Intermediate-stage disease
B—Lymphocytosis + enlargement of > 3 lymphoid regions
High stage disease.
C—Lymphocytosis with anemia and/or thrombocytopenia.
