This form of wrestling originated in the late 19th and early 20th centuries in North America; its sources go back to 17th-century American amateur catch-as-catch-can wrestling, which was based on British and Mayan wrestling. As a form of entertainment, commercial matches are presented in the USA, Great Britain, Italy, and a number of other capitalist countries; they are usually held in a ring and have a predetermined scenario.
