A gene on chromosome Xq13.1 that encodes a member of the membrane-associated guanylate kinase (MAGUK) family thought to play a role in clustering of NMDA receptors at excitatory synapses; it may also downregulate cell proliferation by interacting with the C-terminal region of the adenomatosis polyposis coli tumour suppressor protein. DLG3 is also the retired HUGO symbol for what is now designated MPP3, see there.
Molecular pathology
DLG3 mutations are associated with X-linked mental retardation.
