Cisneros, Henry (Gabriel)

(1947– ) mayor, cabinet official; born in San Antonio, Texas. As mayor of his native city (1982–90) he gained a national reputation for being both a Latino and a progressive in charge of a good-sized American city. He wrote several books, including Target '90: Goals & Decisions for San Antonio's Future. In 1993, President Bill Clinton named him secretary of Housing and Urban Affairs.
