In July 1932, Dhamrong Nawasawat was named to the provisional senate. Beginning in July 1933 he was a member of the State Council (cabinet) and was minister without portfolio (1933–35), minister of internal affairs (1934–38). and minister of justice (1938–44). During World War II, he was one of the leaders of the anti-Japanese Free Thailand movement. In 1946 he headed the Constitutional Front. From August 1946 to November 1947 he was prime minister and minister of justice in the bourgeois democratic government that abolished the anti-Communist law of 1933. He emigrated after the coup d’etat in November 1947. In February 1949 he took part in the unsuccessful conspiracy against the government of Pibul Songgram (1948–57). Later he withdrew from politics.
