单词 catenin
释义

catenin

catenin

[′kat·ə·nən] (biochemistry) Any of a family of 80-102-kilodalton proteins that are thought to have a major role in regulation of cell-to-cell adhesion, which is related to their interaction with E-cadherin and the actin cytoskeleton.

catenin

ca·ten·in

(ka-tēn'in), Cytoplasmic molecule that serves as a link between cadherins and the cytoskeleton of cells, allowing the formation of adherent junctions. There are two types: β-catenin, which is linked to the cadherin itself and α-catenin, which associates with actin microfilaments. [L. catena, chain, + -in]

JUP

A gene on chromosome 17q21 that encodes a major cytoplasmic protein common to both submembranous plaques of desmosomes and intermediate junctions. JUP forms distinct complexes with cadherins, belongs to the catenin family and contains a distinct amino acid motif known as armadillo repeat.
Molecular pathology
JUP mutations are associated with Naxos disease.

There are two types: beta-catenin, which is linked to the cadherin itself, and alpha-catenin, which associates with actin microfilaments. [L. catena, chain, + -in]

catenin

a PROTEIN initially characterized because of its association with the ACTIN of the CYTOSKELETON, where it acts as a bridging protein between CADHERIN and actin.
