释义 | Bingham, WilliamBingham, William(1752–1804) banker, U.S. senator; born in Philadelphia. He made a fortune in trade and privateering. He founded (1781) and directed the Bank of North America. He founded Binghamton, N.Y., and was president of the Philadelphia and Lancaster Turnpike Corporation. He was a U.S. senator (1795–1801). His wife, Anne Willing Bingham, a leader in Philadelphia society, frequently entertained George Washington. |
