Ershov, Iurii Leonidovich

 

Born May 1, 1940, in Novosibirsk. Soviet mathematician. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1970).

Ershov graduated from the University of Novosibirsk in 1963 and became a professor there in 1967. His principal works are devoted to the theory of algorithms, theory of models, and number theory. He obtained important results in the theory of hierarchies, in the theory of degrees of unsolvability, and the theory of numeration. Ershov is a member of the Association for Symbolic Logic (since 1968).
