in the leather industry the impregnation ofdry leather with a hot mixture of high-melting fat-liquoring andimpregnating substances. Fat-liquoring is used in the maufactureof industrial-grade leather, chrome tanning leather (soles ofshoes), and Russia pigskin to increase water resistance and im-prove other properties. Leather that has been dried to a 4–6percent moisture content level and heated is immersed for 2–min in a molten mixture of 50–°C. The mixture is composedprimarily of beef fat, stearin, ceresin, paraffin, and, in certaincases, synthetic rubber.
