Fatma-Koba

Fat’ma-Koba

a grotto in the Baidar Valley, in the Crimea, where a Mesolithic habitation site was discovered in 1927. Azilian and Tardenoisian layers were excavated by G. A. Bonch-Osmolovskii (1927) and S. N. Bibikov (1956–58). The finds included microliths (lunates, trapezes, end scrapers, and gravers) and the bones of wild animals and a dog. The remains of a 40-year-old man, placed on his side in a flexed position in a pit covered with rocks, were found in the Tardenoisian layer.
