Andreianova, Elena Ivanovna

 

Born July 1 (13), 1819; died Oct. 14(26), 1857, in Paris. Russian ballerina. One of the most important representatives of the romantic ballet.

Andreianova graduated from the St. Petersburg Theatrical School in 1837 and performed with the St. Petersburg Ballet Troupe until 1854. In her performances she combined the virtuosity of classical and character dancing with the expressiveness of pantomime acting. Andreianova was the first Russian performer of the roles of Giselle (1842) and Péri (1844) in the ballets of the same name by Adam and Burgmiilleras well as of Paquita (1847) in the ballet of the same name by Minkus and Deldevez.
