diabetes mellitus insulin-dependent type 10

diabetes mellitus insulin-dependent type 10

A multifactorial disorder of glucose homeostasis (OMIM:601942) characterised by susceptibility to ketoacidosis in the absence of insulin therapy.
Clinical findings
Polydipsia, polyphagia and polyuria due to hyperglycaemia-induced osmotic diuresis and secondary thirst. Long-term complications are the same as those of standard diabetes, which affect the eyes, kidneys, nerves and blood vessels.
Molecular pathology
Genetic variations in IL2RA, which encodes the alpha subunit of interleukin–IL 2 receptor, are associated with susceptibility to diabetes mellitus insulin-dependent type 10.
