Flaxseed Cleaning Unit

a set of machines for removing weed seeds, broken and undersized grains, and other foreign matter from flaxseed. The LOS-8 unit used in the USSR consists of a wind and screen cleaner, a seed separator, and a friction cleaner. The wind and screen cleaner has two suction chambers with fans to remove light foreign matter from the seed heap before and after screen cleaning and two screen devices for sepa-rating large foreign matter and weed seeds. After screen cleaning a bucket elevator takes the cleaned seeds to the seed separator, which consists of two cylinders. In one cylinder the larger foreign matter is removed from the seed mass and in the other, the small foreign matter. From the seed separator the seeds move to the friction cleaner whose basic operating element is a friction roll divided into ten sections on the inside; the sections have baize secured to their surfaces to separate rough foreign matter and broken grain from the seeds. The productivity of the flaxseed cleaning unit is 0.3-0.5 tons per hr; its required power, 6.2 kilowatts; and the degree of seed cleaning, 97-99 percent.
