ecological isolation ecological isolation the separation of organisms (usually) within the same geographical region because of their preference for different habitat types. For example, the toads Bufo fowleri and B. americanus both live in the same areas but breed in different places, the former in large, still bodies of water such as ponds, the latter in puddles, or pools in brooks.
