Aga Steppe

located in Transbaikalia, within the boundaries of the Aga-Buriat National Okrug, Chita Oblast, RSFSR. The steppe occupies the gentle slopes of the ranges and the river valleys of the Aga River basin. (The Aga is a tributary of the Onon.) The steppe is about 100 km long, has an elevation of 600–900 meters, and is composed of alluvial and eluvial Quaternary deposits underlain by Cambrian schists. Plant communities of feathergrass-fescue-wormwood and tansy are found on deeply freezing, noncalcareous chernozems and mountain, gray, forest, nonpodzolized soils. Significant areas are tilled.
