Brera
(Pinacoteca Brera), in Milan, one of the largest picture galleries in Italy. Founded in 1809, it includes an extensive collection of 14th- through 19th-century Italian paintings by Ambrogio Lorenzetti, Mantegna, Piero della Francesca, Francesco del Cossa, Raphael, Veronese, Tintoretto, Caravaggio, G. B. Tiepolo, and masters of the school of Leonardo da Vinci, as well as a gallery of Lombard frescoes of the 15th—16th centuries. The Brera also has a collection of 15th- to 17th-century European paintings.
