Panov, Dmitrii Gennadievich

 

Born June 3 (16), 1909, in Vladimir; died July 24,1965, in Rostov-on-Don. Soviet physical geographer and geomorphologist. Doctor of geographical sciences (1961).

Panov graduated from Leningrad University in 1930. In 1946 he became a professor in the subdepartment of polar research at Leningrad University, and in 1951 he became head of the sub-department of physical geography at the university in Rostov-on-Don. Panov’s chief works are devoted to the geomorphology of the arctic, the origin of continents and oceans, the geomorphology of the sea, the investigation of recent bed deposits in the Sea of Azov, and the study of pollen and spores in the recent sediments of the Mediterranean basin.
