Dmitrii Konstantinovich the Elder

 

Born 1323 or 1324; died 1383. Prince of Suzdal’ from 1356; from 1365 to 1383 grand prince of Suzdal’-Nizhny Novgorod.

Dmitrii struggled with the Muscovite Grand Prince Dmitrii Ivanovich Donskoi for the grarid principality of Vladimir, and from 1360 to 1363 he was grand prince of Vladimir. Later he outwardly reconciled his differences with Dmitrii Ivanovich and gave him his daughter Evdokhiia in marriage. With the Muscovite army he conducted a campaign against the Volga Bulgars and the Mordvins. In 1377 his army and the Muscovite army took part in a battle on the P’iana River, where they were destroyed by the Tatars. However, in 1382 he actually aided the conquest of Moscow by the khan Tokhtamysh, to whose army he sent his sons.
