(GosNIIGA), an institute under the authority of the Ministry of Civil Aviation of the USSR. Created in Moscow in 1930, the institute grew out of the designers’ group of the Civil Air Fleet. It has a branch institute in aviation medicine. The institute works out technical and economic problems of the development of civil aviation and questions of the introduction into it of aircraft, aircraft engines, and special equipment and facilities for air traffic control; it conducts state resource tests and special flying and laboratory tests of aviation equipment and air-traffic-control facilities; it investigates questions of technical flying operation and the repair of aircraft equipment. The institute publishes Trudy (Proceedings), an abstract journal on foreign air transport, and a bulletin of scientific and technical information. It has graduate studies.
