Argistikhinili

 

a city built around 776 B.C., during the reign of Argistis I, king of Urartu.

The ruins of Argistikhinili are located on the territory of modern Oktember Raion, Armenian SSR. From Urartian cuneiform inscriptions that have been found, it is known that in the Ararat Valley, which was conquered by the Urartians, a fortress, palaces, and temples were built, and orchards and vineyards were planted in the surrounding area. The city of Armavir, capital of ancient Armenia, was built on this site in the fourth century B.C.
