Briachislav Iziaslavich

Birthdate unknown; died 1044. Became Prince of Polotsk in 1001. In 1021 he made a raid on Novgorod; on the way back his army was overtaken by Iaroslav the Wise on the Sudomin River and defeated. In struggling against Iaroslav, Briachislav Iziaslavich succeeded in defending the independence of Polotsk, which had separated from Kiev under the rule of Iziaslav Vladimirovich, his father.
