Filippov, Vladimir Aleksandrovich
Born June 6 (18), 1889, in Moscow; died there May 20, 1965. Soviet theater scholar, critic, and teacher. Honored Art Worker of the RSFSR (1956).
Filippov graduated from Moscow University in 1912. He began his study of the theater in 1909. In the Soviet period he was chairman of the theatrical section of the People’s Commissariat for Education, head of the Administration of Theaters of the Moscow Soviet, and curator of A. N. Ostrovskii’s study, maintained by the All-Russian Theatrical Society. He was a teacher from 1913 to 1965, becoming a professor in 1930; he taught at the school of the Moscow Philharmonic Society, the M. S. Shchepkin Theatrical School, the VI. I. Nemirovich-Danchenko School and Studio, and the State Institute of Theatrical Arts.
Filippov was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor and various medals.
