Er-Targyn

Er-Targyn

a heroic Kazakh narrative poem dealing with historical events of the 15th century. The poem is a call for unity and a cessation of civil wars between the individual khanates. Er-Targyn, the hero of the poem, is represented as an epic hero, a defender of the people, and a protector of the homeland from foreign aggressors. He is assisted in his exploits by his beautiful and loyal consort Ak-Zhunus. The Soviet composer E. G. Brusilovskii has written an opera of the same name on the motifs of the epos.
