Caulerpa

a genus of green algae of the order Siphonales.There are about 60 species inhabiting tropical and subtropicalseas. The thallus of Caulerpa is a single polynuclear diploid cell, interlaced with trabeculae (siphon structure). A Caulerpa algaconsists of a spreading, branching portion up to 1 m long andrhizoids and vertical shoots up to 30 cm tall. Reproduction isboth sexual (isogamy) and vegetative (parts of the body breakaway).
