Enikolopov, Nikolai Sergeevich

(also N. S. Enikolopian). Born Mar. 13, 1924, in Stepanakert, Azerbaijan SSR. Soviet physical chemist; corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1966).

Enikolopov graduated from the Yerevan Polytechnic Institute in 1945; in 1946 he began to work at the Institute of Chemical Physics of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. His main works are devoted to research on the kinetics and mechanisms of chain reactions of oxidation of hydrocarbons and on ionic polymerization and to the study of the effects of various physical factors on the formation and conversion of macromolecules. He developed the foundations of quantitative theory of degenerately branched processes and established the oxidation mechanism of the simplest hydrocarbons. Enikolopov discovered a new elementary chain transfer step with breaking, which occurs during the reaction of the active centers of a growing chain with the units of macromolecule s.
