Fire-Fish

(also lion-fish, turkey fish; Pterois volitans), a fish of the family Scorpaenidae. Body length, up to 30 cm; weight, up to 1 kg. The body is red with numerous light streaks. Although the pectoral fins are large, the fire-fish cannot fly. Distributed in the tropical parts of the Indian and Pacific oceans, it lives predominantly on coral reefs. The fish has poison glands in the grooves of the spiny rays of the first dorsal fin. The sting of the fire-fish is dangerous and may lead to death.
