D’iakonov, Nikolai Mikhailovich

 

Born Mar. 28 (Apr. 10), 1911, in Ust’-Vym’, now in the Komi ASSR. Komi Soviet playwright, director. People’s Artist of the Komi ASSR since 1945; Honored Artist of the RSFSR since 1951. Member of the CPSU since 1941.

In the prewar years D’iakonov collaborated with S. I. Ermolin in writing the plays Deep Boom, Domna Kalikova, Ravens, and Courage. He won fame with his play Wedding With a Dowry (staged 1949; Russian version in collaboration with A. Glebov, 1950; State Prize of the USSR, 1951); the sequel is Kurochkin’s Quartet (1962). D’iakonov has been awarded two orders and several medals.
