The bulbs have a long neck and may be up to 60–90 cm long and 25 cm in diameter. The leaves are sword-shaped or strapshaped, measuring up to 1.8 m in length. They are especially common on seacoasts, river banks, lake shores, and soils that are flooded periodically. Many species are cultivated as ornamentals, the most widespread being C. asiaticum, C. giganteum, C. longifolium, C. moorei, and C X powellii. |
