Eustathios Makrembolites
Eustathios Makrembolites
(or Eumathios Makrembolites). Years of birth and death unknown. Byzantine writer of the second half of the 12th century.
Eustathios, who was also a government official, wrote the novel The Story of Hysmine and Hysminias on the lines of the Greek novels of the second and third centuries A.D. Judging from the large number of manuscripts that have come down to us, the novel enjoyed popularity. Its first Russian translation appeared in 1769; in 1782 it came out in a reworking by A. P. Sumarokov.
