Bright-Drawn Steel

Bright-Drawn Steel

hot-rolled structural steel that is subjected to additional treatment by cold drawing with small reductions in order to obtain more precise sectional sizes (third to fifth grades of fit), to improve surface quality, and for some steels, to upgrade physical and mechanical properties by cold hardening. Warm drawing (the metal is preheated up to 100° C) is used for the bright-drawing (sizing, gauging) of low-ductility steels. Bright-drawing is used mainly for round (3-100 mm), square, and hexagonal rods. The bright-drawn rods are 6-15 mlong. The camber of the bright-drawn steel rods that develops during the drawing process is corrected on straightening machines. High-alloy bright-drawn steel is polished after sizing and straightening.
