[TA] a number of small branches arising from the internal carotid artery as it traverses the cavernous sinus, distributed to the trigeminal ganglion, the walls of the cavernous and inferior petrosal sinuses, and the nerves contained within them; some anastomose with branches of the middle meningeal artery.
