dialectic of control

dialectic of control

the two-way character of power as a form of control in which the less powerful are usually able to exert some control over the more powerful, e.g. the personal assistant who the manager must keep sweet if he or she is to perform his or her duties willingly. The assumption here is that purely ‘alienative’ forms of power are relatively rare (see TYPES OF COMPLIANCE).
