Erysimum
Erysimum a genus of plants of the family Cruciferae. These plants are annual, biennial, or perennial grasses, with whole leaves. The blossoms have yellow petals and occasionally lilac or white ones. The fruit is a pod. There are about 100 species in temperate regions of Eurasia and in North Africa. In the USSR there are about 70 species, chiefly in the Caucasus and Middle Asia on dry mountain slopes. The biennial spreading or hoary erysimum (E. diffusum) and the annual wormseed mustard (E. cheiranthoides) are used for medicine. Their foliage provides glycosides such as erysimin and erysimoside, which are medications for the cardiovascular system. Wormseed mustard is a weed that grows in the forest and forest-steppe zones.
