Brinell hardness test

Bri·nell hard·ness test

(bri-nel hahrdnĕs test) Common dental measurement to determine hardness of ductile materials (e.g., metals). A hardened steel ball of specific diameter is pressed into the polished surface of the material under a specified load. The result, determined from the area of the surface of the indentation, is an index of hardness (e.g., Brinell hardness number).
