Caytoniales

an order of fossil gymnospermous plants, which were widespread between the second half of the Triassic period and the end of the Cretaceous period. The leaves were petiolate and compound palmate, usually of four lanceolate leaflets with pinnate venation. Rounded cupules resembling ovaries were arranged in two rows on the leafless stalks. There were between six and 12 ovules in the cupule; grains of pollen with two air sacs were discovered in some. Oblong anthers, adnate in groups of four, were attached to the branched stems of the sporophylls.
