DDX42

DDX42

A gene on chromosome 17q23.3 that encodes a protein which has a conserved Asp-Glu-Ala-Asp (DEAD) motif and is a probable ATP-dependent RNA helicase. It binds to partially double-stranded RNAs to unwind RNA secondary structures, which is promoted in the presence of single-strand binding proteins. ATP binding and hydrolysis by DDX42 triggers RNA strand separation, whereas the ADP-bound form of the protein triggers annealing of complementary RNA strands.
