Bechasnov, Vladimir Aleksandrovich

 

Born 1802; died October 1859 in the village of Smolenskoe, Irkutsk Province. Decembrist.

Bechasnov was one of the first members of the Society of United Slavs (1823). He carried on active propaganda among the lower ranks of the 8th Artillery Brigade, in which he was an ensign. He was among the society’s members chosen to assassinate Alexander I. In 1826, Bechasnov was sentenced to life imprisonment, commuted to 20 years, which he served in a Chita prison. After 1839, he lived in exile in Irkutsk Province.
