Argyll Robertson pupil

A pupil which contracts normally when the eye focuses on a near object, but does not constrict when a bright light is shone into the eye. This indicates damage to part of the mechanism controlling the pupil reaction to light and was, at one time, taken to be an invariable indication of SYPHILIS affecting the nervous system.
