British overseas citizens British overseas citizens those persons who are citizens of the UK and its colonies who are not either BRITISH CITIZENS or former British Dependent Territories' citizens. This category encompasses those who did not, when the colony in which they lived became independent, acquire the citizenship of that new country but retained their citizenship of the UK and colonies; they are not citizens of the country in which they live, but yet they have no right to enter and stay in the UK. After five years they have the right to apply for British Citizenship. |
