Cone, (Fairfax Mastick) Fax

(1903–77) advertising executive; born in San Francisco. He worked at the advertising agency Lord and Thomas (1929–42), which he took over with Don Belding and Emerson Foote (1942). As chairman and president he helped to build Foote, Cone and Belding into a major international agency. A copywriter known for directness, he created among other campaigns the long-running Clairol "Does she… or doesn't she?" slogan.
