Dear Colleague letter

(1) A letter by the UK Department of Health which conveys general information, policy updates or a request for information or action to a range of NHS and social care audiences.
(2) A letter sent by a Royal College to a doctor at the first “action point” when he/she has failed in two separate rounds of external quality assurance (or seriously failed round one). Such letters require a response in writing from the failing doctor.
