Film Consisting of Stills

(Russian, fotofil’m), in cinematography. Films consisting of stills are generally shorts. They occupy an intermediate position between motion pictures and photographs. Several such films were made in the mid-20th century. A striking example is La Jetée (The Runway) by the French director C. Marker (1962).
