cross-fibre friction massage

cross-fibre friction massage

Massage
A form of massage in which the therapist applies friction to the muscle perpendicularly to the length of the fibres, which is believed to mechanically reset the proprioceptors. Cross-fibre massage is widely used in physical therapy, sports massage (where it is used on trigger points), to treat tendinitis, and as a means of preventing scar tissue formation; it is believed to release knots (painful spasms).
