cross-fibre friction massage
cross-fibre friction massage
MassageA form of massage in which the therapist applies friction to the muscle perpendicularly to the length of the fibres, which is believed to mechanically reset the proprioceptors. Cross-fibre massage is widely used in physical therapy, sports massage (where it is used on trigger points), to treat tendinitis, and as a means of preventing scar tissue formation; it is believed to release knots (painful spasms).
