Crossing Means
Crossing Means
organic, local, or improvised equipment used for transporting troops and combat matériel over water barriers.
Organic crossing equipment includes individual flotation means designed for the individual ferrying of tanks and combat vehicles and flotation suits and life jackets for personnel. It also includes amphibious crossing means for the ferrying or military subunits, bridge trains for erecting floating bridges and arranging ferry crossings, and industrially produced bridge units (mechanized treadway bridges, bridge launchers, and sectional metal bridges). Local crossing means may consist of vessels, barges, cutters, boats, and ferries usually used for commercial purposes. Improvised crossing means may include barrels, cans, logs, and other objects used for ferrying individual soldiers or for building floats or other structures for ferrying combat matériel.
