CLDN8
CLDN8
A gene on chromosome 21q22.11 that encodes claudin-8, an integral membrane protein of the claudin family, the members of which form a physical barrier that prevents solutes and water from passing freely into the interstitial space between epithelial or endothelial cell sheets, and play critical roles in maintaining cell polarity and signal transduction. Claudin-8 plays important roles in the cation barrier of the distal renal tubule, and in preventing sodium back-leakage in the distal colon.Molecular pathology
Differential expression of claudin-8 occurs in colorectal carcinoma and renal cell tumours, and, with claudin-7, is an immunohistochemical marker for the differential diagnosis of chromophobe renal cell carcinoma and renal oncocytoma.
