Elliott, Maxine

Elliott, Maxine (b. Jessie Dermot)

(1868–1940) stage actress; born in Rockland, Maine. Described as beautiful and dignified, she took up acting mainly as a way to earn money, and was popular in romantic roles. She debuted in New York in 1890 in Middleman, and later performed with her husband Nat Goodwin. She opened her own theater in New York in 1908, then officially retired in 1911, appearing occasionally thereafter.
