CDH12

A gene on chromosome 5p14.3 that encodes a calcium-dependent cell–cell adhesion glycoprotein (cadherin), which is involved in regulating cell–cell adhesions, mobility and proliferation of epithelial cells. CDH12 is a so-called type-II (atypical) cadherin—which lacks a HAV cell adhesion recognition sequence specific to type-I cadherins—and is expressed in the brain with a temporal pattern consistent with a role in neuronal development, possibly synaptogenesis.
