Didgori, Battle of
Took place on Aug. 15, 1121, around Didgori (near Tbilisi) between Georgian forces led by David the Builder and the Seljuk army. The Seljuks greatly outnumbered the Georgians. The Georgian forces, numbering about 60,000 (about 40,000 Georgians, 5,000 Ossetians, 15,000 Kipchaks, and a detachment of Crusaders from Western Europe), soundly defeated the Seljuks and liberated the part of Georgia which had been under Seljuk control since the 1060’s.
