A neuroendocrine tumour (carcinoid) arising in bronchial epithelium, which has been divided by the 2004 WHO classification into typical carcinoids (low grade) and atypical carcinoids (intermediate grade). Higher grade (more malignant) neuroendocrine tumours include large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma and small cell carcinoma of the lung.
